OCEAN WAVES CLASS

Happy Monday everyone,
I'll be teaching some exciting techniques Saturday August 14 at Steve's Sew & Vac in King of Prussia. This can be applied to garments, pillows, anything really. Come and play with me!!

July has been unusually hot this summer and has made me a bit lazy, but last week my dear friend NZ took me to some amazing ladies in downtown Philly who own a frame shop. I sold a piece to a mutual friend who had it framed there. While it was being framed, other customers came in and inquired about it. Very cool. Well, these ladies became interested in my work and invited me to bring some other pieces for them to see. (I think NZ had a bit to do with it). We had a lovely time and I left several pieces with them to display. If you're downtown around 4th and Bainbridge, have a look at THREE TREES CUSTOM FRAMING and say Hi to Tanya and Patty.

Happy late Spring everyone !! Here is the finished piece I talked about a few postings ago. Instead of binding it I wrapped it around heavy cardboard and attached it to this heavenly purple. It's hanging in the St. Thomas themed family room until I sell it.

Delaware Valley Friend's School

Greetings All,
Last week I spent a delightful morning with some art students from the Delaware Valley Friends School in Paoli, PA teaching them how to start a Crazy Quilt patch. They were all very enthusiastic. This is the second time I have been invited to Elizabeth Cantanse's art class and was again struck by the gentle nature and atmosphere of the class.
We started out with a base fabric, some 8" left overs I had at home and then added some pieces I had from my stash. All in all a fun time, especially watching the kids thread a needle for the first time:)

Fantasy Ocean Floor

Good morning all. This has been a joy to make. It's amazing what a few beads and charms can do to make a fantasy ocean floor. Try this for yourselves and be fearless. The initial investment is a minimal and the feel of accomplishment is vast. I will wrap this around canvas and frame it.

Well, the weather here in Philly has been a bit gloomy and cool with lots of rain. In honor of my vacation last Feb. with my gal pals, I have begun working on this little piece. I started with a foundation of hand painted cotton, backed it with stabilizer and machine stitched some fancy metallic stitches on my Bernina 830. These stitches peek through my hand stitching giving it a bit of mystery. There is also some hand painted cheese cloth and silk roving. Look for more soon....

Great Class

This past weekend I finished teaching a basic embroidery class thru Main Line School Night in suburban Philly. What a great bunch of ladies. They were fearless! We started out using DMC floss and a few basic stitches. They caught on so quickly that I felt they were ready to explore working with silk ribbon which really was not a part of the class. Their work was lovely and they were so enthusiastic that we are forming our own Guild. If you have any interest in joining us please let me know. We will meet on Saturday May 15 to discuss times and days.

New Camera

Hi everyone. Well I got a new camera and it has taken me this long to figure out how to use it. Ok, there were a few other things I have been working on. One of them is this "Ode to the Carib" I think the Angelina fibers are reflecting too much light in the photo. I'll try to work that out in the future. This piece is very heavily beaded. The base is silk dupioni. I free motioned some yummy fibers and then beaded . I think I will wrap this around a little canvas and frame it.
This past weekend I taught a hand embroidery class and a needle felting class. I'll have more on this next time.

Mucha print collage

I recently found these fabric panels with Gustav Mucha ladies on them. They are very small, only 2-4". I choose Lonni Rossi fabric in the same basic color family, backed the fabric with a stabilizer, and satin stitched around. I will embellish it this week and let you have a look when I'm further along.

Welcome one and all!!

Just got back from a sunny vacation in USVI where I was unable to blog due to this website being in Spanish. French, German or Italian I could have managed but not Spanish. So here I am with a mini tutorial for you.
The image you see here is from my Hubble Space Telescope Series. This has a black velvet background to which I added Angelina fibers, silk roving, and thread. The center shape is silk dupioni which has been heavily beaded.
If you live in the Philadelphia, PA area and would like a class on this, I'm happy to teach you or your group. Speaking of teaching, I have my beginning embroidery class starting Saturday, April 10 and 17 in Radnor, PA. Since these classes are getting full, I will offer afternoon and evening classes in April if Saturdays are a problem.
Remember to create something this week that brings you joy.
walk in beauty,
Julie

Thanks Lisa!!

In my very first blog posting about my new updated web site, let me take a moment to thank my BFF Lisa for all her hard work. I'm not the computer idiot I was a year ago but I still have a ways to go to catch up with normal folk.
